APNE is very close to my heart- Sunny Deol

Sunny Deol's ailing back doesn't weigh him down. His back has always been a handicap and it has hampered his career but the jat that he is, he takes everything in his stride. "Everyone knows that I've been unwell for a long time. My back has been a hindrance but I've learnt to live with it. This is the reason why the audience hasn't seen much of me lately," says Sunny.

"It's my ambition to do good, entertaining and meaningful films thereby contributing to Indian cinema", adds Sunny.

He is working on lot of scripts currently and says that he has lost interest in awards. "Today awards don't focus on ones work and talent. Audience appreciation is what matters to me."

His forthcoming film APNE directed by Anil Sharma is very close to his heart. He has developed an emotional bonding with the film. "APNE is about the joint family system. It is about the issues and happenings in a joint family. Some bitterness cropping up in the family doesn't mean that people don't love each other. It has boxing as its backdrop," he divulges.

And what's next on the cards? "There's FOOL and FINAL, KAAFILA and CHALLENGE coming up," he signs off.

Sunny Deol looking forward to the release of 'Naksha'

Sunny Deol makes a comeback after nearly a year with Naksha that also stars Jackie Shroff , Vivek Oberoi and Sameera Reddy .

Sunny's last release was Jo Bole So Nihaal which was embroiled into controversy for allegedly hurting Sikh sentiments and bomb blasts in Delhi theatres, which were screening the movie.

Interacting with the media in Mumbai on Saturday evening, Sunny admitted that his back problem was a handicap and he had learnt to live with it.

"Every body knows I was unwell and hence I had to take a sabbatical. But, now I want to work and work. Every year, I should have three to five releases."

Tolu Bajaj's 'Naksha' directed by Bajaj's son debutant Sachin releases on September 8.

Sunny said that 'Naksha' was an adventure film with light comedy and action.

To a question on whether there was a deliberate attempt to shift from his action image, Sunny said that was not the case.

Bulgarian model opposite Sunny

Bulgarian model Polina Stoynova will be seen playing the lead role opposite Sunny Deol in writer-director-actor Ammtoje Mann’s KAAFILA. Polina was in Mumbai recently to shoot for the film, which is racing towards the completion mark.

Polina was selected by Ammtoje to play the challenging role of a Kazakistan resident after exhaustive auditions in Bulgaria. Polina was finally selected from a pool of more than 60 contenders for the leading role. Polina’s portions have been shot extensively in Mumbai and Bulgaria.

Polina conversed with the film’s unit in English and came regularly on the film’s sets, a good ten days ahead of her call-sheet, to mingle with the film’s unit as well as get a feel of what the film’s story demanded from the cast and crew.

Incidentally, the leading ladies of KAAFILA hail from foreign nations. The other two leading ladies in the film, Sana Nawaz and Mona Lisa, are Pakistani. The film is slated for a November release.

Sunny Deol a.k.a. Veer a.k.a. Rambo a.k.a Tarzan

Sunny Deol's character is named Veer in his upcoming film 'Naksha'. While he plays a dare devil in the film, the film's promotion has something more to add on to his He-Man personality.

Sunny Deol has certainly been a busy man, lately. Apart from his forthcoming film Naksha, he is also gung-ho about his real life role as a producer in collaboration with K.Sera Sera. As part of this venture, the first film to be made is a remake of the Telugu hit Athadu. Directed by Sangeeth Sivan, it will star Bobby Deol. The shooting schedule begins in November, this year.

Another film directed by Anubhav Sinha is in the offing. Titled Airport, it will start in early 2007. So the Deols certainly have a lot to look forward to!

Sunny Deol
Sunny Deol born to filmstar Dharmendra as "Ajay Singh Deol". This 5'9" tall guy made his debut as a teenage romantic hero in Betaab with co-star Amrita Singh. Action roles seemed to be his forte, but he also tried his hand at romantic roles in several movies.

His powerful draw at the box office...the 'dhishum dhishum' comes so naturally as does a getlemanly demeanour which attracts women in hordes. Additionally his ever youthful look is a major plus point in itself.

From romantic hero to the rebellious, unemployed angry young man out to get justice, the blockbuster Ghayal established Sunny as the action hero in Bollywood. Lately, Sunny has been busy with other work apart from acting - directing. For now, Sunny has his hands full and more home productions seems to be in the offering.

His Gadar was a mega hit. He performed well in this film. The brawn machine that steamrolls its way at the box office. Action sells and so does Sunny Deol. 2003 was not too good a year for him, however. His mega-budget The Hero didn't live up to expectations and his other movies were quite forgettable. His track record has been dented, but it will continue to be biceps and bashing all the way next year. The shy, soft-spoken Deol is a tough guy to keep down for long.
